UL Listed Stainless Steel Conduit & Fittings
Awarded by the global, independent, safety-science company of the same name, UL Solutions (UL) certifications help to set the standard for product safety and performance. Backed by over a century of experience, the UL certification is, in many ways, the main quality standard across industries.
From a marketing standpoint, a UL product certification demonstrates the commitment a company makes to safety and quality. It demonstrates to potential customers a company’s experience in the industry and the steps it has taken to ensure its products can be safely used and installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
The primary designations that fall under the UL certification suite are:- UL Listing
- UL Classification
- UL Performance Verification
Of the UL certifications, Listing is the most comprehensive evaluation, requiring rigorous testing of representative product samples against electrical and fire risks and other hazards found in UL’s published Standards for Safety, carefully crafted by UL’s team of unrivaled safety science experts.
The types of marks available for UL Listing include:- UL Listing Mark
- UL Listing Mark for Canada (if applicable)
- A combined Canada/U.S. Listing Mark (if applicable)
UL Classification is a more targeted certification under which products are examined for specific applicable environmental and performance challenges, but not the full UL safety series.
The types of marks available for UL Classification include:- UL Classification Mark
- UL Classification Mark for Canada (if applicable)
- A combined Canada/U.S. Classification Mark (if applicable)
While Classified products bear the UL Mark, they must also be accompanied by a statement confirming the limited scope for which they are Classified, as well as a corresponding control number.
UL Performance Verification is another specific certification which evaluates representative product samples for specific performance standards, with less focus on safety and environmental hazards. These requirements could include national or international industry performance standards, proprietary standards from the manufacturer, or UL specifications. Like the UL Classification, UL Performance Verification requires a supplementary statement verifying the limited scope and control number.
Once products have been certified, they can then carry an official UL Mark, such as that frequently found on household appliances or computers, to signify their rating.
To ensure ongoing compliance once a product has been certified, UL mandates follow-up service enrollment. Under this program, UL inspectors make quarterly visits to qualifying companies to audit their marked products and verify that they remain in good standing with the certification requirements.
Above all else, UL certifications demonstrate a company’s active support of the continuous development of safety standards. As recently as a decade ago, UL’s Regulatory Services staff would find over 50% of the electrical equipment they surveyed during field evaluations to have significant deficiencies. By designing and manufacturing with UL compliance in mind, manufacturers are helping to push the future of safety forward.
At Gibson Stainless, all of our products are designed to exceed standard electrical industry practices. Many of our products are UL Listed to ensure the safety of our customers and the reliability of our products. When we submit products for UL certification, we pursue the comprehensive UL Listing to ensure all potential risks are considered.
